Our new online editor is so perfect for coding your game film that I had to post about it again (first one here). This time I want to walk through a couple tricks…
Firstly, we know breaking down game film requires a certain level of efficiency. So from now on, you can start and stop play just by tapping the space bar. Sure, it only takes a second to reach for your mouse, but that’s one second too many in our eyes.
Now for the good stuff – customizable hot keys for your video timelines…
We start every game film with a timeline for “offense” and “defense,” but you can create any timelines you want - 1st downs, special teams, penalty kicks – whatever your sport calls for.
Did you get some scout video in a HomeField trade? Create timelines focusing on your opponent’s best player!
To create a new timeline, just pick the key you want to use, name the timeline and if you’d like, you can add a couple seconds of “lead time” – which is great for fast action you might miss like shots, saves etc. Then, as you watch your game film, simply hit the key that correlates to the video.
For example – while the video is playing, if you click the hot key “G” (when a goal is scored) with a set 10 second lead time, and then click “G” again to end the clip 5 seconds later, you will end up with a 15 second clip showing the 10 seconds leading up to a goal and the 5 seconds after.

To show you that you’re marking a clip, we highlight the timeline and the clip as it’s being made. Notice the Defense timeline and the clip being created at left.
To play any of the timelines, simply click the green play icon to the left of your chosen timeline and the video will play each clip in order.

Need to make a change? No worries. If you want to edit or delete a timeline, you can just hit the ‘edit’ link and make any changes necessary.
We think this is the simplest way to break down your gam film. You watch the game, tap a few keys as you do, and when you’re done your team can watch the important pieces of the game at their convenience. That being said – we’d love to hear your feedback on how we can improve the HomeField editor. Post it here!
If you want to see the editor in action, you can always check it out our demo video on our help wiki, here.
